4th of July Festivities in Milton

The 4th of July, our nation’s birthday when independence was declared from British rule, has been celebrated for 240 years with flags, parades, picnics, games and patriotic pride.  The Town of Milton will celebrate all of these traditions and more on Monday, July 4, 2016 in Milton Memorial Park beginning at 10 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

There will be old fashioned fun for all ages all day as our local businesses and community groups collaborate to “bring Mayberry Back to Milton.”  Festivities include a dunk tank, a pie baking contest, train rides, relay and sack races, chess matches and free games and activities for children.  A highlight will be a bike decorating contest and bike parade at 11:00 a.m. sponsored by Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant.   Grand prizes of two brand new bikes will be awarded to the winners – one each to the best boy and girl entries.   All decorated bike contestants must register by 10:45am at the Gazebo.

The “Milton’s Best” Pie Baking Contest has three competitive categories – professional, amateur, and children 12 and under.  Bring your favorite Red, White or Blue themed pie to the Hospitality Tent between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. on July 4th.  All pies must be made from scratch, prepared in a 9” disposable pie pan with a cover, and not require refrigeration.  Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the winners!

Musical entertainment at the Gazebo will feature Milton’s own Walt Hetfield known for his Buddy Holly Tribute performances and DJ Jerry B from Affordable Wedding Entertainment.

Bring a picnic lunch or feast on food from on-site vendors including Irish Eyes, the Holy Smokers of Goshen Church, and the Milton Lions Club.  Milton’s 4th of July celebration is sponsored by the Milton Community Foundation, Irish Eyes, the Milton Women’s Club, plus your friends and neighbors.  Bring your family and guests and enjoy this Milton tradition of celebrating our freedom.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available.  This event is free and open to the public.  For further information contact Maryellen Kiernan at mare@irisheyespub.com or call 302-684-5005.
