“Milton Collects” Stamps
The Milton Historical Society’s new Speakers Series, “Milton Collects,”
aims at unearthing undiscovered collections in Milton as local residents
share what they collect. The first “Milton Collects” presentation will
take place Wednesday, February 25 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at the MHS Museum,
210 Union St. in Milton.
Bruce McKinney, a stamp collector and President of the Sussex County Stamp Club since 2013, is the featured speaker. Did you know that stamp collecting is the oldest hobby in the world? Learn about the origins of postal systems and how technology is changing and enhancing this fascinating hobby. The current generation of Philatelists (stamp
collectors) uses the Web extensively to exhibit, catalog and inform others about stamps. This presentation will include hands-on involvement in stamp collecting and even offer free stamps to help anyone interested to get started. Products will be displayed and participants will learn how fast and easy it can be grow a collection.
The Sussex County Stamp Club meets on the 2nd Wednesday each month at the St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church Hall located at 307 Federal St. in Milton. The club celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014 that included a Stamp Show held in Milton. Mr. McKinney attended Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee and completed a B.S. degree from Delaware State University. He moved to Milton in 2012 from New Castle County.
“Milton Collects” Speakers Series is free and open to the public. For further information, contact the Milton Historical Society at www.historicmilton.org or call 302-684-1010.
