“Milton Collects” Toy Soldiers

The Milton Historical Society’s Speakers Series, “Milton Collects,”

continues on Friday, June 19 with the presentation, “250 Years of Toy Soldiers from the Time of Frederick the Great to the Present” by Mr. Ted Kanakos.   Mr. Kanakos has collected antique toys and toy soldiers for over 40 years.  At one time his collection numbered over 4000 pieces and many of these were photographed for reference and collector publications.

Examples of toy soldiers from all eras will be discussed and displayed along with reference materials, photographs and dioramas.  Ted has worked for a number of auction houses in New York City and antique stores as an appraiser and consultant.  In addition, he has lectured on collecting toys and toy soldiers at collectable conventions, collectors clubs and historical societies.

Toy soldiers have been collected since the time of the Pharaohs.  Winston Churchill and H.G. Wells are known to have collected and played with toy soldiers.  Perhaps you did, too.  The combination of colorful miniature soldiers with the history of the wars and time periods they represent can be intriguing and fascinating.

This presentation takes place at the MHS Museum, 210 Union St. in Milton

from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.   “Milton Collects” Speakers Series is free and open

to the public.  For further information, contact the Milton Historical Society at www.historicmilton.org or call 302-684-1010.
