Programs
The following forms from the Milton Police Department in regards to the available programs:
Cell Phone Reverse 911 Registration
In an emergency, officials in Delaware can contact you using a reverse 911 system. If you do not have a landline, though, you may not get that lifesaving call. Landlines, both listed and unlisted, automatically get the reverse 911 call. But people who use cell phones need to call a special number to get signed up. With a growing number of people using cell phones instead of landlines, state emergency officials say they want more cell phone users to get involved. To register your cell phone for reverse 911 in Delaware through FirstCall, dial (866) 484-3264 or view the press release from Sussex County Emergency Operation Center (EOC).

Ride Along Program
The Milton Police Department does have a ride-along program. The Ride-Along Program is available to citizens at least 21-years of age, college students 18-years of age, or students of any age involved in town sponsored activities. Ride-Alongs are available on a first come, first served basis. Interested individuals should fill out the Ride Along Application.
All completed applications will be filed and applicants will be selected in chronological order. You will be required to execute a liability waiver form and will be given a copy of the observer’s rules and regulations. On the scheduled day and time, you should report to the police department. A brief, get-acquainted meeting will be held so that the host officers can introduce themselves and answer any questions you might have. Once the introduction is complete, you will be given an abbreviated tour of the police facility. The remainder of the Ride-Along assignment will be spent responding to various police calls for service.
Participation in the Ride-Along Program is contingent upon adherence to rules and regulations governing the program. You will be occupying the position of a silent observer during this time. We request that you do not reveal what you see or hear during your tour which could be detrimental to the prosecution of any case arising from the officer’s performance of his/her duties. You may be called upon to be a witness in a court proceeding, and you may be called upon for assistance. The decision for this will rest with the officers to whom you are assigned and the given circumstances. All participants will be expected to be properly dressed and in keeping with the standards of the police organization. Observers will only be permitted to participate four times within a 12-month period, unless further approval is granted by the Chief of Police.
National Night Out
Please help us to continue our well known annual event the “Milton Police Department’s National Night Out Against Crime” by donating your inactive cellular phones to us.
The donation of your inactive cell phones are collected by the Milton Police Department from various locations around the Town of Milton. The phones are shipped to a company who in turn repairs the phones or uses parts of phones to fix other phones and are given to certain individuals for emergency purposes. The Milton Police Department receives a contribution from this company which offsets the National Night Out Against Crime fund.
So please, don’t delay, donate your phones today at the Milton Police Station.
Project ChildSafe
Project ChildSafe, the nation’s largest firearm safety education program, has began the second phase of its nationwide campaign to promote safe and responsible gun ownership and storage. The program reminds gun owners to take steps to prevent a loaded gun from falling into the hands of a child, thereby preventing tragic accidents.
The current campaign will distribute over 12 million free firearm safety kits and follows the successful Phase One distribution of 20 million firearm safety kits over the past year to all 50 states. Each firearm safety kit includes a cable-style gun lock and a firearm safety brochure.
File of Life
In order to help people better document their medications in case of a medical emergency, Beebe Medical Center in 1999 began distributing File of Life Packets. The File of Life card enables Fire/Police/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel to obtain quick and accurate medical information. The card also eliminates the risk of a patient forgetting to mention something important. The information card is kept in a red plastic pocket labeled FILE OF LIFE held with a magnet for hanging outside of the refrigerator. A window sticker is visibly displayed outside the home so paramedics know to look for these packets. The card lists the patient’s name, emergency medical contact, insurance policy, social security number, health problems, medications, dosages, allergies, recent surgery, religion and a health care proxy. The entire packet is Free and available at Milton Police Department, your local fire department, or EMS agency.
Please make sure that the original Emergency Medical Information form is updated. And, please complete the new universal Medication form and include it in your File of Life packet.

Notify Next of Kin
Quote from the NOKR (Next of Kin Registry) web site:
“The Next Of Kin Registry (NOKR) was established as a FREE tool for daily emergencies and national disasters. NOKR is an emergency contact system to help if you or your family member is missing, injured or deceased. NOKR provides the public a free proactive service to store emergency contacts, next of kin and vital medical information that would be critical to emergency response agencies. Stored information is only accessible via a secure area that is only accessible by emergency public trust agencies that have registered with NOKR.”
